Washington, D.C. –  Following President Joe Biden’s announcement of executive actions to combat climate change, including a strong focus on climate justice, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“Climate change and environmental destruction are life-threatening emergencies for all of us, but the threat is especially acute for disadvantaged communities and communities of color. For decades, these communities have suffered disproportionately from polluting industries and activities in their neighborhoods.  They also face disadvantages combating a whole range of health threats and changing conditions that stem from climate change writ large, including more severe storms and the risk of more illnesses. We applaud the Biden-Harris administration for committing to making climate and environmental justice a core piece of every policy its pursues.  It is deeply heartening to have an administration that is brave and honest enough to call this longstanding inequity by its right name, and to take responsibility for fixing it.”
