Washington, D.C.—  As the Supreme Court hears oral arguments today in the latest effort by the Trump administration and Republicans to destroy the Affordable Care Act,  People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“This is one of the moments Amy Coney Barrett was made for, as far as Republicans are concerned. The headlong rush to install her on the Supreme Court was largely about having her there to gut the Affordable Care Act, including its protections for preexisting conditions, and she will be under intense scrutiny today.  But make no mistake, the American people do not want their access to health care destroyed – they never have – and that played an enormous role in Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s victory last week. We are extremely grateful that under a Biden-Harris administration, the focus will be on protecting and expanding health care, not gutting it.  And we will support every effort of this new administration to protect the millions who need health care and to mitigate any damage the Republican-controlled Supreme Court tries to do.”
