Washington D.C. – Following news that Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has ordered state officials to review the AP African American Studies course rejected by Gov. Ron DeSantis in Florida, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“Glenn Youngkin’s decision to imitate Ron DeSantis by attacking the AP African American Studies course is a cynical, politically motivated move to pander to the Far Right. While it’s not surprising, it’s disgusting. The course Youngkin wants to scrutinize has already been watered down from its original form. We’re now seeing an escalation of the war on the freedom to learn that’s all about politicians trying to outdo each other scoring political points at the expense of kids, and it has to stop.”
