Washington, D.C. –  Following the growing number of attacks on President Biden’s executive branch nominees who are women and/or people of color, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“The Biden-Harris administration is making a historic commitment to diversity in its highest ranks.  So it’s discouraging but not surprising to see a pattern of attacks against eminently qualified nominees who are women, people of color, or both.  We’re deeply concerned about attempts to derail these nominations with complaints about everything from sharply worded tweets to unfounded claims of ‘radicalism’ or ‘extremism’ that are too often used as cover for racist and sexist bias.  These are strong nominees who deserve fair treatment and an unbiased evaluation of their records. The American people will be watching.”
