Washington D.C. – Following reports that a New York grand jury has voted to indict former President Donald Trump, on charges related to hush money paid to actor Stormy Daniels, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“In our democracy, nobody is above the law, and we have confidence that the legal process will play out fairly and smoothly. At the same time, we are appalled to see the former president apparently trying to foment violence and undermine the normal workings of our democracy, by encouraging supporters to protest and ‘take our nation back.’  We saw what happened when he did this on January 6, 2021. We urge calm in this moment and condemn in the strongest terms the former president’s irresponsibility and lack of respect for our justice system.”
