Washington, D.C. –  Following President-elect Joe Biden’s unveiling of a proposed $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“The COVID relief package unveiled by President-elect Joe Biden is exactly the kind of bold action we need to address the pandemic and assist millions of people suffering from economic fallout created by the Trump administration’s mismanagement.  Just today we discovered another monumental failure of the outgoing administration, in that it misinformed the entire country about the existence of an additional stockpile of vaccine that was not in fact available. It is critically important that we turn the page and make up the ground lost on the previous administration’s disastrous watch, which is why we also applaud the Biden-Harris plan to follow up with even more substantial relief in the future. Congress must act as soon as possible to pass this relief bill with the recognition that only such aggressive action will be effective in the face of this crisis.”
