“People For the American Way honors the dignity, humanity and identity of all people. Today we are proud to celebrate the transgender community and the contributions they have made to all aspects of American life. At the same time, we realize that transgender equality and the very lives of transgender people are under renewed attack by far-right bigots. Harmful laws are being passed and the Right is seizing every opportunity to spread fear and misinformation. It’s vital that we defend the rights of all transgender Americans from these attacks. It’s about basic respect and all too often it’s also a matter of life and death.”
