Washington D.C. – Following reports that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas repeatedly accepted free luxury vacations from a billionaire activist, Harlan Crowe, without disclosing the gift as required by ethics law, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“If a state legislator accepts a sandwich, they must disclose it, so it’s incomprehensible how Justice Thomas gets to accept free trips on superyachts and private jets. We need a code of ethics for the Supreme Court that is enforceable. And we need accountability to ensure that code of ethics is adhered to. It’s time for hearings in the Senate Judiciary Committee — and it’s also time for Chief Justice Roberts to stop looking the other way when it comes to egregious behavior like that of Justice Thomas.”
