Washington, D.C. – As the Senate Judiciary Committee today takes up the nominations of Jennifer Sung for a seat on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Beth Robinson for a seat on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“The Biden-Harris administration is making transformative nominations to our federal courts.  Jennifer Sung has devoted her career to the rights of workers and will bring her deep insight into the challenges facing working families to the Ninth Circuit bench. She also would be the first Asian American judge from Oregon to serve on that court. Beth Robinson will be an outstanding addition to the Second Circuit, following her legal career upholding workers’ rights and LGBTQ+ rights, and as a widely respected member of the Vermont Supreme Court. She would be the first openly LGBTQ + woman on any federal circuit court. These nominees’ lived experience and outstanding professional credentials will help build a justice system that works for all people, not just the wealthy and powerful. Sung and Robinson should be promptly confirmed.”
