Earlier this week, Senate Republicans yet again prevented the Senate from voting on highly qualified judicial nominees who had cleared committee, leaving 20 of them in limbo even though 17 had no recorded opposition. In a statement this morning on NPR, White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler affirmed the Administration’s commitment to press for confirmation of the pending judicial nominees when Congress returns in September. By delaying the confirmation process at every stage and leaving courts around the country without enough judges, Republicans are making it harder for Americans to have access to justice.

“It’s encouraging to hear the White House putting a priority on standing up to this destructive obstruction,” said Marge Baker, executive vice president at People For the American Way. “It’s unconscionable that Senate Republicans are holding the entire judicial system hostage for purely political reasons. But with continued support from the president and the Senate majority leader, we can ensure that the American people have the access to justice that our Constitution and our liberty demands.”
