WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following today’s ruling by the D.C. Circuit Court, refusing to enforce the House Judiciary Committee’s subpoena for testimony from former White House Counsel Don McGahn, People For the American Way Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“We are deeply concerned about this ruling, which is a frightening endorsement of Donald Trump’s sweeping and unprecedented rejection of Congressional authority. Throughout the impeachment inquiry, Trump sought to completely shut down White House cooperation — claiming nearly unlimited executive privilege. He has also stonewalled important congressional oversight requests apart from impeachment. As Judge Judith Rogers’s dissent notes, this ruling ‘all but assures future Presidential stonewalling of Congress.’ In the hands of Donald Trump, today’s decision would be a dangerous weapon indeed, and we sincerely hope that the full D.C. Circuit will take up this ruling, which was made by a three-judge panel.”
