Washington, D.C.— Following tonight’s Democratic presidential primary debate, PFAW Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“It was really important to hear presidential candidates speak about the federal courts tonight. This debate came just two days after Republicans again made it crystal clear that they see the courts as priority number one. Literally minutes after Mitch McConnell concluded a Senate impeachment ‘trial’ that let Donald Trump off scot-free, McConnell moved to advance the nominations of more very troubling judicial nominees. Democratic candidates need to prioritize the courts the same way Republicans have for years. Tonight’s debate was an encouraging sign that that is happening, and voters who are increasingly attuned to the role of courts in our everyday lives will weigh candidates’ plans for courts when they cast their votes in the primaries.”
