WASHINGTON, D.C.— In response to today’s Senate vote in favor of an interim coronavirus funding package that will replenish the Paycheck Protection Program and provide additional funds for health care, PFAW Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“This additional funding for small business and for health care, including urgently needed coronavirus testing capacity, is another important and incremental step toward the full scope of relief that Congress must provide. We applaud Democratic leaders in Congress for insisting, at every step of the way, that relief be provided for everyday Americans and not just the giant corporations that Republicans favor. We also share Democrats’ determination to ensure that the future CARES 2 Act addresses the financial needs of state and local governments, as well as tribal governments, which Republicans have refused to address in the latest package. This critical aid is being held up by Republicans playing politics at the expense of local governments and some of our most vulnerable populations, and that has to stop. And we will also need to see critical support in the next package for the election security measures essential to safe and secure primary and general elections this year.”
