WASHINGTON, D.C.— In response to today’s vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance the nomination of Steven Menashi, President Trump’s nominee for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, PFAW Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“Steven Menashi’s record and work as a Trump administration lawyer show that he has had his hands in some of its most controversial and untoward policies. Just recently we found out that he was involved in an illegal effort by Betsy DeVos’s Education Department to deny debt relief to students cheated by for-profit colleges. There are many concerns about his enabling Steven Miller’s harsh anti-immigration agenda, as well as his role in the Ukraine cover-up. He has been less than forthcoming about much of this. Not only does he not embody the ethical and temperamental qualities required of a federal judge, but his record makes it clear that he is not someone who will put his personal views aside to give all litigants a fair hearing.”
