WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following today’s vote in the Senate to confirm Sarah Pitlyk to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, People For the American Way Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“Sarah Pitlyk’s confirmation is very bad news for the people of Missouri — and indeed for our entire justice system, because important decisions can be issued by district courts and have effects across the country. It is bad news for people who need access to reproductive health care, because Pitlyk has taken extreme stances against reproductive rights. But it’s also bad news for millions more, because Pitlyk comes to the bench with absolutely no relevant experience and has never tried a case. People seeking justice in federal court deserve better than a distinctly biased judge who also needs on-the-job-training, but unfortunately that is exactly what they are getting in Sarah Pitlyk.”
