In response to President Donald Trump’s latest order targeting immigrants from predominantly Muslim Countries, People For the American Way President Michael Keegan issued the following statement.

“Make no mistake: today’s order is another Muslim ban. The Trump administration has been perfectly clear that its intent is, and has always been, to target and discriminate against individuals based on their faith. That’s profoundly un-American and plainly unconstitutional. The cosmetic changes that he’s made since his first attempt to implement the Muslim ban he promised during the campaign shouldn’t distract from the fact that this is a blatant violation of the First Amendment.

“At the same time as we stand up against this attack on Muslim Americans and their communities, we also recognize that President Trump is trying to use hate and bigotry to distract from the ongoing scandals engulfing his administration. This kind of overreach only underscores how critical it is that we hold extremists like Jeff Sessions accountable for his lies before congress and prevent this administration from cramming a pro-Trump rubber stamp on the Supreme Court.”
