In response to the announcement that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will appear on Fox News tonight, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement:

“The fact that Kavanaugh would make an unprecedented media appearance to try to save his nomination to the Supreme Court says a lot about how frantically he’s spinning this story. The fact that he’s chosen to make an appearance on Fox News says even more.

“Fox News is essentially the house organ of the Republican Party. The interviewer, Martha MacCallum was one of Roger Ailes’s most vocal defenders before he was forced to resign because of a pattern of sexual assault and harassment. This isn’t journalism. It’s propaganda. Anyone who watches it should keep that in mind.

“Most importantly, Brett Kavanaugh has already made clear that he’s not interested in having the facts be known. If that were the case, in his letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee today he would not have called the statements by brave women ‘smears’ and ‘character assassination.’ He would instead have requested a thorough, independent FBI investigation to clear his name. He would have asked for Mark Judge and a host of other witnesses to testify under oath. He didn’t do either of those things, and it’s not hard to guess why. He, just like Mitch McConnell and Chuck Grassley, is playing politics with the Supreme Court and women’s lives.
