In response to President Trump’s executive order shutting out refugees and preventing those from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the country, People For the American Way President Michael Keegan released the following statement:

“Donald Trump and Steve Bannon are showing contempt for American values with their executive orders. An official policy that stigmatizes immigrants and discriminates against Muslims is not only wrong and un-American, it is also short-sighted. In the name of making America safe, Trump and Bannon are doing the opposite. They are undermining our national security as well as our moral authority. Slamming the door in the face of refugee families is shameful.

“Trump’s disregard for basic constitutional values is providing Americans with a profound challenge. Our response will determine the kind of country we live in and leave to future generations.

“The outpouring of public resistance is a reassuring sign that most Americans understand that Trump’s policies are not the American Way. We, the people, must be the patriotic resistance!”
