In response to reports that Ryan Bounds’ nomination to the 9th Circuit Court is being withdrawn, People For the American Way Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement:
“It is gratifying to see the withdrawal of Ryan Bounds’ nomination, given his disturbing record of disregard for the experiences of people of color, the LGBTQ community, and sexual assault survivors. That record made clear that he was unfit for a lifetime seat on the federal bench. If Trump had honored the objections of both home senators in Oregon, Ryan Bounds would not have been nominated. Today’s news is a testament to the grassroots activism of millions of Americans who raised their voices in opposition to this unqualified nominee.”
“It also shows the importance of having a full record and sufficient time to study it, which will be imperative with Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.”
