WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to today’s announcement that lawmakers have reached agreement on a $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package, People For the American Way Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“We applaud the tireless work of Democratic leadership in insisting that this stimulus package prioritize the needs of working families and provide essential oversight for aid extended to businesses and corporations. These are important measures for the millions of Americans worried about protecting themselves and their families from illness and financial collapse as the result of the coronavirus. Continued support will be needed. In particular, while this package contains nearly three times the funds Republicans had been willing to spend to secure our elections, this represents only a down payment on the level of resources necessary to alleviate potential disruptions during upcoming primaries and the November 2 election.”
