WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following the introduction by House Democrats of the $3 trillion Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act (Heroes Act), focused on urgently needed relief for everyday Americans, People For the American Way Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“We applaud the House Democrats for introducing a bold new stimulus package that prioritizes the safety and security of all Americans. The Heroes Act honors essential workers who keep us safe by providing critical aid for state, local and tribal governments to pay those workers; it also provides safeguards for our democracy with $3.6 billion in aid to ensure safe elections. Millions of Americans are losing their jobs, homes, and health care in the middle of the worst economic collapse our nation has ever seen. Republicans in the Senate and the House must wake up to the realities that everyday Americans are facing. Instead of wasting time crafting protections for wealthy corporations, they must act immediately to support passage of the Heroes Act.”
