WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following Donald Trump’s threat today to forcibly adjourn Congress so he can make recess appointments, most notably judicial appointments, People For the American Way Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s threat to force the adjournment of Congress so he can ram through more judicial appointments shows his mounting desperation to distract attention from his disastrous response to the coronavirus pandemic. This is a reckless ploy in the middle of a pandemic crisis to placate his base with the far-right judicial nominations that have been a hallmark of his presidency. He has badly botched the response to the current pandemic and is now flailing and grasping at straws to try to change the subject, and the American people see that.”
