WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following last night’s dramatic win in Virginia, in which Democrats took control of both houses of the General Assembly, People For the American Way President Michael Keegan released the following statement:

“This history-making election in Virginia is about so much more than just politics, so much more than rearranging seats or turning the colors on a map from red to blue. Those who have fought for many years for the rights of communities that have been marginalized are deeply moved by this victory, because it will have profound impacts on the most personal level for millions of Virginians — affecting health, equality, inclusion, and so many other critical rights. It also sets an example that can ultimately mean better government and a better life for many more people in our country. Our thanks go out to all who came out to vote and who made this outcome possible.”

PFAW endorsed 40 Democratic candidates in Virginia’s 2019 elections through the PFAW Next Up Victory Fund, providing support via earned media, financial contributions, organizing, canvassing, digital and social campaigning and mobilization of our membership. PFAW’s Latinos Vote! initiative also provided earned media, and sponsored broadcast and digital ads in numerous races.
