After the second day of hearings on the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement:

“Judge Sotomayor’s testimony today was stellar. She was cool, collected, and utterly in command of the law throughout the day. Even under some tough questioning, Judge Sotomayor was totally in control and on point about her experience, her open-mindedness, and her deep respect for the rule of law.

“Between the quality of her opinions on the circuit and district courts and her testimony today, Judge Sotomayor has made it eminently clear why President Obama selected her to replace Justice Souter. She has a first rate intellect and a clear understanding of the role that the law plays in the lives of ordinary Americans. She’s going to make an excellent Supreme Court Justice.”
