People For the American Way Voters Alliance today announced its endorsement of former Congressman Ciro Rodriguez in the Democratic primary election in the 28th congressional district in Texas. Rodriguez is running against incumbent Representative Henry Cuellar.

“The voters in Texas 28 deserve a representative who will stand up for the people’s interests and for progressive Texas values,” said Deece Eckstein, Texas Director of People For the American Way. “Ciro Rodriguez was that kind of leader before Tom DeLay’s corrupt redistricting scheme cost him his seat in Congress. We need to put Ciro Rodriguez back in Congress.”

Eckstein said Rep. Henry Cuellar has failed to earn the support of his constituents, noting that Cuellar has sided with President Bush and against the interest of his constituents on a range of issues, including a vote for the pharmaceutical companies and against senior citizens on the Medicare prescription drug bill.

People For the American Way Voters Alliance is a federal political action committee affiliated with People For the American Way, a national social justice advocacy organization.
