Endorsees are running against Independent Democratic Conference candidates
Washington, D.C.—People For the American Way’s Next Up Victory Fund today announced its endorsement for several candidates running for the New York State Senate: Alessandra Biaggi, Zellnor Myrie, Jessica Ramos, and Jasmine Robinson.
PFAW Political Director Lizet Ocampo said the following about the candidates:
“Alessandra Biaggi is fighting for an inclusive, progressive Democratic Party. She’s running to unseat the ringleader of the Independent Democratic Conference fiasco that cost New Yorkers a progressive Senate. She’s a real progressive and we endorse her wholeheartedly.
“In New York’s State Senate 20, PFAW’s Next Up Victory Fund is standing with Zellnor Myrie. Zellnor’s vision of a Brooklyn that belongs to working families brings exactly the right perspective to this race. His voice in Albany will be a welcome change from an incumbent who empowered Republicans in the Senate.
“In the wake of the IDC’s betrayal of Democratic voters in New York, we need an unabashed progressive to get Albany back on track. The state senate needs the perspective of a mom and a lifelong straphanger—that’s Jessica Ramos.
“Jasmine Robinson is running against one of the earliest members of the IDC, and her perspective on politics could not be more different. She’s running as a ‘True Blue Democrat’ who wears her progressive values on her sleeve, and by doing so, she has galvanized progressives in her district behind her. PFAW endorses Jasmine for New York State District 23.”
