Ralph G. Neas, President of People For the American Way Foundation, will call upon young people to commit their lives to bringing justice to their communities and the nation at “Visions of Peace and Justice,” a program for African-American and Jewish teenagers commemorating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Neas will address the youths at the Lincoln Memorial on January 17 at 4:30 p.m.

“We have come a long way but the victories we have won can be reversed if we allow it. This generation must take up the challenge to ensure freedom and fairness in an increasingly diverse country. Twenty-first century America will look different than twentieth century America. It’s your job to make this country a place where everyone shares in the benefits of freedom,” Neas will tell the students.

In his remarks, Neas plans to commemorate his mentors in the civil rights movement and to discuss the partnership between the African American and Jewish communities. Neas, who was the Executive Director of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights for 14 years, will tell the youths, “When we all push together, there is no mountain we can’t move.”

“Visions for Peace and Justice” is the sixth annual event sponsored by Washington Institute for Jewish Leadership and Values and Operation Understanding DC. The day includes students’ participation in an afternoon of community service at a local hospital, Neas’ keynote address, musical performances and presentations on cross-cultural understanding and mutual respect.
