People For the American Way’s Latinos Vote! program to Air Updated Version of Chilling Digital Ad During World Cup Mexico vs . Brazil Knockout Game on Saturday
Washington, DC – This Saturday, People for the American Way’s Latinos Vote! program will release a new ad in Texas to remind voters of Ted Cruz’s failure to stand up to Trump and stop child separation and the horrifying child prison camps. The June 30th ad combines the now-infamous image of a crying Honduran toddler and asylum seeker in a pink sweater with audio of separated children frightened and wailing for their loved ones while stuck in detention centers.

The ad will target Latino voters in Texas and run for a week in both English and Spanish during the entire first round of the knockout games of the World Cup, including the Mexico vs. Brazil game on Monday. The digital ad is an updated version of an ad calling out all Republicans in key races across the country that PFAW released earlier this month.
“Ted Cruz stood by silently with the Republican Party when Trump demonized Latinos, when he called us rapists and animals,” said Lizet Ocampo, Political Director of People For the American Way. “He was silent when Trump campaigned on making the lives of immigrants hell. Cruz’s silence, along with the GOP’s, allowed for more than 4,000 Latino children to be torn from their parents. We’ve seen reports of children kept in cages. This ad presents voters in Texas and across the U.S. with the raw, heartbreaking trauma children are facing as we speak—and it makes clear that one critical way to end this suffering is at the ballot box. Beto O’Rourke has been at the front lines fighting against these atrocities. It’s time to vote Ted Cruz out and elect Beto O’Rourke, who fights for children and families.”
