WASHINGTON, D.C.—Following tonight’s Democratic presidential primary debate, PFAW Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement :

“This is one of the most perilous times our courts and our justice system have ever faced, and voters need to know that presidential candidates not only understand that but also have a plan to address it. In recent days we have watched Donald Trump redouble his attacks on a federal judge in the Roger Stone case and assert that he has a right to intervene in our legal system in any way he sees fit. The next president must restore the public faith in our courts and judges that Trump has set about destroying, and that includes appointing fair-minded constitutionalists to the federal courts. Although the issue of Trump’s harmful judicial nominees came up briefly this evening, this topic deserves far more attention, and we strongly believe there should be a focus on it through the primaries and beyond.”
