Washington, D.C.— Following today’s action by MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund), and Asian Americans Advancing Justice/AAJC (Advancing Justice/AAJC), requesting that a federal court in Maryland issue a temporary restraining order to prevent the Trump administration from ending the 2020 census count more than a month early, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“We strongly support this action by two civil rights groups to stop Donald Trump’s effort to curtail the census. This administration has repeatedly tried to corrupt and undermine the census process for partisan purposes and to undercount and disadvantage communities of color – including its illegal and failed attempt to add a citizenship question. This effort to shut the census count down is just another in a long string of equally cynical ploys, and the court should grant the order to halt it.”
