Washington, D.C.— Following Democrat Mark Kelly’s historic win tonight in the election for Arizona’s U.S. Senate seat, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“Martha McSally has repeatedly failed Arizonans by voting to confirm judges who will overturn the Affordable Care Act, including throwing out preexisting conditions protection for 2.8 million Arizonans. In her latest act of disservice to Arizonans, she recently voted to confirm anti-health care Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. Clearly, Arizonans have had enough. Tonight, they voted her out and instead chose Mark Kelly, further highlighting the state’s rapidly shifting political landscape. Kelly won with a strong message in support of Social Security and Medicare, taking on climate change, protecting small business, and putting Arizonans first – not special interests. We were proud to join him and Arizonans to hold McSally accountable for her terrible record and look forward to the great things he will accomplish as Arizona’s next U.S. senator.”
