Washington, D.C. – As the U.S. House convenes to consider two options for removing Donald Trump from office and preventing him from holding office again, a resolution calling for invocation of the 25th Amendment and an article of impeachment, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:
“Donald Trump must be removed from office as expeditiously as possible, before he has the opportunity to do further damage, including causing the deaths of even more people. The quickest way for that to happen is for Trump to resign or for the 25th Amendment to be invoked. We demand that all members of Congress support the resolution expected to be introduced today: calling for the 25th Amendment to be used to remove Trump. If Vice President Pence and cabinet officials fail to perform their duty, then the Congress must immediately move to support the Article of Impeachment based on his role in inciting the January 6 insurrection, which upon conviction would remove him from office and create the opportunity to prevent him from ever holding public office again. We believe the best option would be for Trump to resign; but members of Congress must support every measure at their disposal to hasten his departure.”
