WASHINGTON, DC— Following the House passage of H.R. 1, the For the People Act, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“By passing the For the People Act, the House today solidified its commitment to a stronger democracy for everyone. This historic legislation is supported by two-thirds of the American people and moves all of us closer to ‘we the people.’ It advances the voting rights that the late John Lewis fought so hard for, helps get rid of big money in politics, and prevents racist gerrymandering that tilts the scales of political power. Now it’s the Senate’s turn to pass the For the People Act for a more fully inclusive and representative democracy.”
