Washington, D.C. – In response to Gen. Michael Flynn’s recent remarks at a QAnon rally, at which he suggested that a coup should happen in the United States, People For the American Way today launched a petition drive to call on Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to court martial Flynn and deny him his government pension. People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“It is unconscionable that American taxpayers should fund the retirement of any military officer who openly endorsed the suggestion of a coup in the United States. Gen. Michael Flynn’s remarks were incendiary, dangerous and antithetical to what our armed forces have repeatedly fought and died for. There are steps that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin can take to hold Flynn accountable via court martial even though he has retired. We are calling on Secretary Austin to insist on accountability for Flynn, and calling on our members and allies to make their voices heard in the petition we are circulating as of today.”
