Washington, DC— Following today’s Senate vote confirming Judge Lucy Koh to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“Today, we are pleased to see the Senate vote to confirm Lucy Koh to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and we commend the Biden administration for maintaining their promise to diversify our judicial system. With her confirmation today, Koh becomes the first Korean-American woman to serve as a federal appellate judge and the second AAPI woman from California to serve on the Ninth Circuit. Koh’s track record on the bench shows that she recognizes the importance of the federal judiciary in protecting the rule of law and our nation’s democracy. Just last year, she twice pushed back against the Trump administration’s attempts to unlawfully manipulate the 2020 Census. We congratulate Koh on her confirmation and look forward to the continued Senate confirmations of excellent judicial nominees.”
