Atlanta— Today, People For the American Way’s Latinos Vote! program announced a six-figure Spanish-language radio ad buy across Georgia, focused on the importance of electing Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff to the U.S. Senate in the January 5 runoff elections.
Ads began airing today, and the ad campaign goes through Election Day, Jan. 5.
One of the ads released today has the voice of legendary civil and labor rights leader Dolores Huerta, a People For Board Member. The additional ad released today focused on the issue of immigration and DACA, one that is very important to Georgia Latino voters. Two additional ads are also scheduled to be released.

People For the American Way’s Latinos Vote! program was the first to invest in reaching out to Latino voters through Spanish language political ads in Georgia in 2014 and was the only group invested in Spanish-language media across the state focused on the presidential election during the 2020. Until November’s election, Georgia had not voted for a Democrat in a presidential election since 1992, when they voted for Bill Clinton.
There are an estimated 32 million eligible Latino voters nationwide and an estimated 291,000 eligible Latino voters in Georgia, which represents four percent of all eligible voters in the state–enough to turn the tide in favor of both Ossoff and Warnock. Exit polls had the Latino vote at seven percent of the electorate for the November general election.
“On January 5, we are going to win these Senate seats and the Latino community will be key to our victory,” said People For the American Way President Ben Jealous. “Georgians have watched for years as state Republicans try to keep voters from casting ballots. But no amount of suppression can make up for the frustration of the tens of thousands who have lost loved ones and livelihoods to a pandemic Donald Trump continues to downplay. Georgians have had enough.”
“November’s presidential election showed that when you prioritize Latino communities, we will flex our political muscles at the polls,” People For the American Way board member, civil rights and labor leader Dolores Huerta. “Latinos in Georgia and across the country have watched Sen. Loeffler and Sen. Perdue endorse and help install racist and xenophobic policies under the Trump administration. We know who they are and we know it is time for them to go. Latinos are more motivated than ever to get out and vote for Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in January.”
“Latino voters played a huge role in turning Georgia blue in November,” said People For the American Way Political Director Lizet Ocampo. “Latinos Vote! and People For the American Way reached out and engaged the Latino community across Georgia during the presidential election and we’re doing it again for these Senate races. We are going to win on January 5.”
