Washington, D.C. - As the Senate completes another week featuring the confirmation of outstanding federal judges, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“The Biden-Harris administration and the Senate Democratic majority are accumulating a truly impressive record when it comes to federal judges. Just this week we saw the confirmation of two more judges with experience as public defenders: Veronica Rossman in the 10th Circuit and Margaret Strickland in the District of New Mexico. This diversity of professional experience is critically important in a field that has been dominated for too long by former corporate lawyers. The administration is also making great strides in adding women and people of color to the bench: Almost half of President Biden’s judicial nominees are women of color, and more than a quarter are Black women. And the pace of confirmations at this point in Biden’s first term is very brisk: more than any president since Gerald Ford. We applaud the administration and Senate Democrats for prioritizing the federal courts, which have such an enormous impact on everyday people’s lives and rights.”
