Washington, D.C. – Following the second day of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearing on her nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson showed brilliance and resilience today, as she reaffirmed her deep commitment to follow the rule of law and to provide everyone who comes before her with equal justice under law. Judge Jackson showed that she understands the role of a judge and that her approach to every case is neutral, independent and thorough. She showed the grace under pressure that is an integral component of judicial temperament–even as some senators who had promised a respectful hearing offered up baseless smears and meritless misinformation. Judge Jackson understands that Supreme Court justices defend the rights of all people, regardless of race, income, background, or zip code. Her qualifications are unquestionable. We look forward to Judge Jackson’s confirmation and her promise to rule fairly and without fear or favor as our next Supreme Court associate justice.”
