Washington D.C. – As the war in the Middle East intensifies, and Muslim and Jewish groups in the U.S. have both reported a sharp rise in harassment and attacks in recent weeks, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“We are appalled at the rise in religious bigotry driven by the Far Right here at home. People For the American Way has always stood against religious bigotry in all its forms. Religious freedom is a core American value, and while this country has always had more work to do to live up to this ideal, it is a tragedy to see right-wing bigots deliberately fanning the flames of hate here at home: people like Nick Fuentes spouting antisemitism, or far-right pastors like Greg Locke preaching the complete annihilation of millions of Muslims. Our hearts are broken by the violence and loss of life that this intolerance has brought about in recent weeks in our country, and we condemn it in the strongest possible terms.”
