Washington, D.C. –  Following Donald Trump’s unprecedented incitement of supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol to threaten and commit violence in protest of his election loss, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“We are witnessing an appalling and deeply dangerous eruption of violence in our nation’s capital, incited and encouraged by Donald Trump.  Trump has put the lives of lawmakers, Capitol staff, police officers, and innocent residents at mortal risk, and no words of condemnation are strong enough to describe this  act of utter depravity by a sitting U.S. president.  This is not the America we aspire to or believe in, and we must come together and call for calm and healing. We pray that no serious injury or loss of life will occur today.”
