Washington, D.C. – People For the American Way is pleased to announce that Ben Jealous will testify today Wednesday, March 10, before the Senate Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Oversight, Agency Action and Federal Rights. The topic of the hearing will be “What’s Wrong with the Supreme Court: The Big-Money Assault on Our Judiciary.” The hearing starts at 2:30 pm ET and will be livestreamed here.

“The corporate capture of our federal courts is a serious problem that has been going on for years, and is reaching a crisis point in our Supreme Court. During the Trump years, millions of dollars were spent by conservative forces aligned with big business to promote the confirmation of Trump’s Supreme Court nominees. Clearly, they thought corporate America would benefit, and they were right. We’re seeing the results in rulings that hurt workers, consumers, and the environment, and are all about protecting corporations’ bottom lines. And all too often the people who suffer are vulnerable communities, especially communities of color.”

People For the American Way has actively advocated for fairer courts and against big-money influence in our courts for decades. Our current project, “Confirmed Judges, Confirmed Fears,” highlights harmful rulings by Trump judges, including rulings affecting corporations, workers, consumers, the environment, and more.
