Washington, DC — Following today’s announcement of major findings by the House’s bipartisan January 6 committee, including a criminal referral of Donald Trump to the Justice Department for possible prosecution on criminal charges, People For the American Way incoming president Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“The January 6 committee deserves enormous credit for its diligent and sometimes thankless work, helping Americans understand the truth about the broad criminal conspiracy to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Now the Justice Department has a responsibility to act on the criminal referrals the committee has made, because it must always be clear that in our democracy, no one is above the law. That means the Department should prosecute Donald Trump and his co-conspirators, including John Eastman, Mark Meadows, Jeffrey Clark and Rudy Giuliani, to the fullest extent of the law. Anything less puts the survival of our democracy at risk.”
