Washington D.C. – Following reports that former President Donald Trump has been indicted by the Department of Justice on charges related to his retention and mishandling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“The reports of Donald Trump’s indictment on federal charges related to his mishandling of classified documents are not surprising, although they are deeply sobering. This would be the first federal criminal indictment of a former president in our history, which is a sad event. But in the United States no one is above the law. If the Justice Department announces an indictment of the former president, we are confident that the department will prosecute the case fully and with consummate professionalism. Justice must be served.”
