WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following tonight’s Democratic presidential primary debate, PFAW Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“We were disappointed that the topic of our courts and judges was barely mentioned at tonight’s debate. South Carolinians are acutely aware of the impacts that courts and an unfair justice system can have on people’s lives, especially in communities of color. And just days ago, we heard a sitting Supreme Court justice give the alarming warning that under this president, our nation’s highest court has become unfairly biased toward the Trump administration. We can’t afford to overlook this extreme right-wing takeover of our courts. We need a full commitment from the next president to address this issue and a plan to defend the federal bench, and we need to hear these ideas directly from all candidates.”
