Washington, D.C.— Following today’s testimony before a Senate panel by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“Louis DeJoy’s strategy coming into his Senate hearing was clearly to deny, deflect and evade any tough questioning about his role in sabotaging the postal service. He refused to commit to reversing equipment cutbacks. He could provide no rationale for changes he has made to the postal service, which have seriously harmed Americans who rely on it for deliveries including lifesaving prescription medications. His testimony proved once again that he is simply a Trump loyalist with no relevant experience, put in place to assist Trump’s reelection effort and nothing else. We continue to believe that he should resign or be removed from his office. Meanwhile, Congress must pass legislation to force the reversal of service cutbacks and to fully fund the postal service in this time of crisis, so it can meet the demands of the upcoming election as well as the daily needs of Americans.”
