WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following today’s testimony by Dr. Anthony Fauci and other public health officials before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, PFAW Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“Today’s testimony by Dr. Fauci demonstrated once again just how unwise, inhumane and divorced from reality the Trump administration’s rush to reopen the economy really is. Time and again, Fauci pushed back against dangerous notions advanced by Trump and Republicans, warning that we cannot be totally confident that people who have had coronavirus are now immune, that we do not yet know all the effects on children, and that deaths from coronavirus have likely been undercounted — not overcounted. Fauci has been a voice of reason and responsibility throughout this crisis, continually warning against a premature reopening that will create more infections. Make no mistake, Trump’s determination to ignore this advice will cost American lives.”
