Washington, D.C.—People For the American Way today decried Donald Trump’s statement that he would accept political dirt on his campaign opponents from foreign autocrats and oligarchs. PFAW released the following statement from PFAW Executive Vice President Marge Baker:

“A president who can’t distinguish between opposition research and foreign interference with our elections is not fit for the office. Trump’s assertion that members of Congress accept political dirt from foreign autocrats all the time is astounding. What does he know about Republican campaigns that we don’t? GOP elected officials need to clarify right now whether they call – or would call – the FBI when approached by foreign governments with political dirt. Do GOP members of Congress ‘all do it’? Is it true ‘they always have,’ as Trump told ABC News? The public needs answers.”
