Washington, D.C.— Following today’s announcement by Senate Judiciary Chair Lindsey Graham that he will accelerate the first markup for Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court nomination to Thursday morning, before testimony in her confirmation hearing is even finished, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“If we needed any more proof that Republicans are hell-bent on getting the Barrett confirmation done before the election and before November 10th’s arguments on the Affordable Care Act, we don’t have to look any further.  Lindsey Graham’s decision to further accelerate the schedule for this nomination  means he wants to move forward on the nomination before hearings are even over.  And the reasons are clear: Republicans want her on the court to get rid of the health care law they despise and save them if Trump is losing the election.  The American people see right through this, and we’ll render our verdict at the ballot box.”
