WASHINGTON, D.C.—People For the American Way (PFAW) today released the following statement from PFAW Executive Vice President Marge Baker after the Senate voted for cloture on Trump judicial nominee Michael Park for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

“Michael Park is an ideologue with an agenda at odds with a government that provides justice to everyone, not just the rich and the powerful. His record demonstrates a desire to undo the New Deal and ensure that nothing like it could ever be implemented again. He is a partner at a boutique, ultraconservative law firm known for litigating against voting rights, abortion rights, educational opportunity, and other racial justice issues. In short, he is a narrow-minded elitist and an extremely dangerous choice for the federal bench.

“These and other concerns led Park’s home state senators to withhold their support—but Republicans advanced his nomination anyway. The Senate should vote down his nomination, and the White House should work with Senators Gillibrand and Schumer to find a suitable alternative.”
