WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following today’s publication by the Trump administration of a new immigration rule designed to sharply curtail the ability of people to seek asylum in the United States, PFAW Political Director and Director of the Latinos Vote! program Lizet Ocampo released the following statement:

“This Trump administration attack on legal immigration flies in the face of a core value of our country: our commitment to providing asylum for people fleeing persecution and seeking safety. The proposed restrictions on people seeking asylum would all but slam our doors on those who are fleeing persecution for their race, religion, political views, sexual orientation or nationality, as well as those fleeing violence at home or at the hands of criminal gangs. Once again, the administration is showing us that it does not care how many vulnerable people are hurt or killed as it seeks to impose its cruel and racist immigration policies. This proposed rule will be a death sentence for many.”

About Latinos Vote!

PFAW’s Latinos Vote! program exposes and counters anti-immigrant, anti-Latino rhetoric and policies. Through electoral work, we hold groups, leaders and influencers accountable at the polls for the harm they do to immigrant and Latino communities.
